В некоторых исследованиях до начала активного лечения необходимо отменить у пациентов предшествующую терапию. Для этого часто используют вводный период, когда пациенты не получали лечение или могут принимать плацебо. По окончании периода, который может продолжаться 7–14 дней, проводят оценку показателей исходного состояния пациентов и они вступают в фазу активного лечения.
